Activities

The IBT program is responsible for countless events and activities which occur throughout the year. Most of these activities are geared towards including IBT students but many reach out to the mainstream population as well.

Events:

  • GO Conference — a yearly conference for Grade 8’s who will be attending Grade 9 as IBT students the following year. Very much like a leadership conference where the participating students learn essential leadership skills. The experience provides a fantastic environment for the students to become friends and allow for an easy transition into high school life.
  • Grade 9 IBT Conference — A conference for Grade 9’s explaining what is expected of them as IBT students and tips on how they can achieve their goals in their remaining years of high school.
  • Grade 10 IBT Conference — A conference for Grade 10’s further expanding upon what they have learned the previous year and reminding them on how to effectively achieve their academic and extracurricular goals in the following years.
  • Professional Speakers — Every year, we have a minimum of two professional speakers come in and talk with the IBT students in all grades about leadership, ethics and life in general. They provide an insight into life after high school and the countless options available. Students learn how to deal with life problems, taking initiative in group environments and dealing with the thousands of problems which will arise in the future. These speakers are always very well received and are always something which is looked forward to by all students.

Activities:

  • Grade 10 Business Ventures — A culminating project in each Grade 10 business class in which students are placed in small groups and assigned to not only come up with a practical business plan, but to carry out this plan by selling their products in the cafeteria during lunch. Students learn how to effectively design, market and advertise this product in a business environment, providing them with skills and experiences which they could not get through a normal curriculum.
  • IBT Portfolios — Students are expected to keep a portfolio outlining all of their achievements and goals for their high school career. Each year, two portfolio checks are conducted by the IBT Leadership Council. These portfolios include important information about the student which will aid them and be an essential component when they are applying for universities.
  • Video Conferences — The debate club holds international video conferences between schools from around the world yearly. The students participating have a debating competition and it provides an experience which could not be replicated anywhere else.
